How do I fit the E1 hand strap and a neck strap? Pic Pls!

Rokkor Fan , Nov 25, 2004; 10:54 p.m.

Hi all,

I just got the handstrap for my 1v with PB-E2, and I want to fit it and the normal strap. Apparently there is a certain way to do it which was shown in the 1D manual, but do you think I can still find a 1D manual anywhere?

Can someone please show me how it is supposed to be fitted to allow the neck strap as well?

Best regards,

Antony

I've also seen picture instructions on how to fit them in the instruction sheets included with the battery packs for both the Digital Rebel and 10D as well. Once I saw the pictures it was obvious how they worked, but until then I had no idea how they were supposed to be fitted on. The metal tab that comes with it allows for the strap to be looped through with the handstrap attached. Someone here once posted the pictures in another post similar to yours. I'm sure someone here will post it for you- I could not find it.

OK, here's what it is supposed to look like after it's mounted:

Hi Greg,

I have seen those photos, and I don't actually think that is correct. The instructions for the 1D apparently show how to attach the strap and the hand strap, and the correct method for doing that. After all, why would canon make a metal piece that was going to scratch your camera?

Any other suggestions anyone?

Cheers,

Antony

Hi Anthony,

If this uploads it should answer your question. I didn't get on with them both fitted so took the E1 off .

Take care, Scott.

Warning, these are big. The quick-links represent the camera attachment points. I like the shoulder-strap attachment on the bottom so it's shown that way.

The plain vanilla version:

The same with the shoulder-strap also:

My "improvement" by adding a spare slider to prevent the shoulder-strap from tightening the hand-strap.

Note that I changed the order of the layers between 2) and 3). That doesn't make any difference. What you need to watch is that the little ridges in the Canon locking slider are in contact with the strap.

Hello Scott My son didn't get/lost the metal piece, that you don't use. Can I buy it ?

PS: still nobody with a small, elegant quickrelease for the hand strap, so I can take the flopping battery compartment off, when using a tripod

Hi Poul,

Unfortunately I live on a small Island in the Caribbean so the cost of getting it to you is going to be about what you would pay for a new E1 ! Check Canon USA website, they have a shop section that sells lens caps, hoods, battery covers etc they might be able to supply you with one.

Take care, Scott.

For future reference, the 1Ds manual also contains the instructions, and you can still download it in PDF format from Canon's support site.

Old post, but here's a better view of the instructions for anyone searching the archives on how to attach the E1 hand strap handstrap (for search engine hits...)
